Our bakery
Velvet Wing Bakery is the story of Ansleigh Burdette, a Gulf Coast baker who turned years of baking for the people she loves into something of her own. What began in a home kitchen is growing one order, one celebration, and one customer at a time.

The Velvet Wing story
For Ansleigh Burdette, baking was part of life long before Velvet Wing had a name. One of her earliest memories is being around 13 years old and baking blackberry cobbler and cake with her Nana.
As she got older, she kept baking for family, friends, and coworkers. Eventually, more people started asking her to make something for them. The people closest to her kept encouraging her to give it a real try.
Then one day, while her husband was taking a nap, Ansleigh formed a bakery. It was spontaneous, a little unexpected, and something she simply felt she needed to do.
That was the beginning of Velvet Wing.
“What’s the worst thing that can happen?”
The thought that helped turn an idea into Velvet Wing Bakery
From the home kitchen
Velvet Wing began at home with word of mouth, social media, friends, family, and plenty of learning along the way.
The first paid order was cinnamon rolls for Erin, a longtime family friend and one of Ansleigh’s earliest supporters.
Cinnamon rolls became one of the first products to get real attention, followed by cookies, brownies, pretzels, cupcakes, cakes, and custom work.
Customers began driving as much as an hour to try what Ansleigh was making, and some became repeat customers.
Why Velvet Wing
To Ansleigh, velvet feels timeless, rich, and elegant. It captures the beauty and polish she wants people to feel when they see a finished Velvet Wing creation.
The wing connects to Ansleigh’s favorite animal, the bat, and to her love of finding beauty in things that are a little strange, unusual, or unexpected.
Meet Ansleigh Burdette
Ansleigh describes herself as caring, funny, sentimental, and a perfectionist. All four show up in her work.
To her, baking is more than food. It is her love language. Every order is personal. Every recipe matters. Every detail matters.
She wants the first thing you notice when you open the box to be the presentation. After the first bite, she wants it to be the flavor.

What Ansleigh hopes every customer feels when they recommend Velvet Wing
What Velvet Wing stands for
Ansleigh is particular about the recipes she uses because flavor is part of the promise. Beautiful is not enough if it does not taste just as good.
Presentation, finish, texture, and taste all have to come together before something feels good enough for Velvet Wing.
Ansleigh loves hearing the customer’s idea, seeing the finished box, and getting to witness the reaction when it all comes together.
Rooted on the Mississippi Gulf Coast
Ansleigh grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and that sense of home is part of Velvet Wing’s foundation.
Her mother, Brandie, and her aunt, Jodi, were among her strongest supporters from the beginning. Her husband, closest friends, early customers, and people from her husband’s workplace became part of the village that helped the bakery grow.
From the people who tried it
“Everything has been amazing. Fresh, delicious, full of flavor, and you can tell there is love in the baking.”

Shelby ShieldsFacebook review“The best cinnamon rolls I’ve had. Perfectly baked and not overly sweet.”
Amelia HortonFacebook reviewThe dream ahead
Ansleigh can already picture a Velvet Wing storefront. Emerald green walls. Gold accents. An elegant atmosphere with a little mood and drama.
But the dream is bigger than a bakery. She wants to build something lasting for her children, something they can grow with, and something that can create opportunities for the next generation.
When will she finally look at Velvet Wing and say, “I did it”?
When she opens the doors to her own store.
Until then
