Frequently asked questions
Ordering something special should feel exciting—not confusing. Browse by topic, open what you need, and if your question is more specific, we’re only a message away.
Start with the idea, not a perfect plan. We can help shape the details from there.
Tell us what you already know: the date, what you would like us to make, roughly how many people you are serving, and any flavors, colors, themes, or design ideas you love. You do not need every detail figured out before you reach out. If we need anything else to plan the order, we’ll ask.
As early as you comfortably can, especially for an important date, a larger order, or a detailed design. Availability changes with the season and our existing production schedule, so reaching out early gives us the best chance to accommodate your date.
Absolutely. Inspiration photos are a great way to show us the colors, mood, finish, or details you are drawn to. We use them as direction rather than promising an exact copy of someone else’s work, so your order can still feel personal to you.
For most custom items, yes. What is available depends on the product, the design, and your date. Tell us what sounds good or what you are trying to match and we’ll confirm the options that work for your order.
Ask us. The online menu is not the limit of every custom request we can consider. Send the details of what you have in mind and we’ll let you know whether it is something we can make for your date.
We want the money side to be clear before your order becomes official.
Standard bakery items may have a fixed or starting price online. Custom work depends on size, quantity, ingredients, design, and level of detail. Once we understand what you need, we’ll confirm the price before the order is booked.
Unless we specifically approve a different arrangement, at least 50% of the order total is required to lock in an agreed date and time. Full payment is required before we begin making the order. A quote or conversation about a date does not reserve production time until the required payment is received.
Contact us as soon as you can. Refund eligibility depends on how far the order has progressed and what we have already committed to it. Ingredients, custom materials, decorations, design work, production time, or labor already purchased or completed may reduce the amount that can be refunded. Once production has begun or the order has been completed, a refund may not be available. Exceptions can be approved by the owner when appropriate.
Putting an item in your cart does not reserve it. An order is confirmed after the applicable checkout or payment process succeeds and you receive confirmation. For custom work, we’ll tell you when the details are accepted and what payment is needed to reserve the order.
Before payment, the checkout flow refreshes the order against current pricing, availability, pickup options, taxes, and any applicable fees. You will have a chance to review the final amount before you pay.
Dates matter in a bakery. Here is what to expect once your order is moving.
For eligible orders, you’ll choose from pickup times that are still available during the ordering process. For a custom order, we’ll confirm the pickup date and time directly with you. Simply seeing an available time does not reserve it until the order is confirmed.
Contact us as soon as you know you need a change. Whether we can make it depends on what is changing, how close we are to your pickup date, and whether ingredients, decorations, custom supplies, or production time have already been committed. A change that increases cost or requires rework may require an additional charge.
Please contact us as soon as you know you may miss your pickup window. Because bakery products are perishable and production schedules are carefully timed, we cannot promise that every order can be held indefinitely. We will work with you on the most reasonable option available.
If you have a confirmed order reference, use Order Status with your order reference and the email address used at checkout. If we are still planning a custom order together, continue with the bakery communication you have been using until we confirm the order.
A browser cart can outlive a live menu update, so we re-check availability before payment. If something is no longer available, we’ll ask you to update the cart rather than letting you pay for an item we cannot fulfill.
From a birthday table to a public market, give us the context and we’ll take it from there.
Yes. We can talk through cakes, cupcakes, dessert-table items, favors, and other sweets for private celebrations. Share your date, venue, guest count, ideas, and any service needs so we can review availability and the best options for the event.
Event organizers are welcome to invite us. Send the date, location, type of event, expected crowd if you know it, and the vendor details or requirements. We’ll review everything and let you know whether we are available to participate.
Yes. Give us your approximate guest count and tell us how the desserts will be served—for example, a main cake, individual treats, or a mixed dessert table. We can use that information to help frame the order while we work through the final details.
Please tell us about dietary concerns early so we can give you the clearest information we can.
Tell us before ordering and review the ingredient and allergen information provided with the item. Our kitchen handles multiple ingredients, so a dietary description should not be treated as a guarantee against cross-contact unless we specifically confirm otherwise.
Yes. If the information you need is not already shown with the product, ask us before ordering. For a custom order, mention the ingredient or dietary concern in your request so it can be considered while we plan the order.
We do not make a blanket allergen-free or zero-cross-contact guarantee. We handle multiple ingredients in the kitchen, so customers with a severe allergy or medically necessary restriction should tell us before ordering and use the ingredient and allergen information we provide to decide whether a product is appropriate for them.
Home-baked should still feel completely cared for. Here is how we protect the food, the process, and your order.
It means Velvet Wing Bakery prepares qualifying cottage-food products in a private home kitchen rather than a conventional commercial food facility. Mississippi has specific rules for what cottage-food operations may make and how those products are labeled. Cottage status describes the type of operation—it does not change how seriously we take cleanliness, careful handling, ingredient protection, or your trust.
Food safety is treated as a core part of every order. We follow the food-safety, handling, storage, labeling, and allergen requirements applicable to our cottage-food operation and maintain careful practices throughout preparation, cooling, decorating, packaging, and pickup. Extensive food-safety and food-handling training also informs how we work.
Food-contact surfaces, tools, and equipment are cleaned and sanitized as part of the preparation process, and regular handwashing is built into food handling. Work areas are prepared for bakery production and we take steps to prevent contamination while ingredients and finished products are being handled.
Ingredients are kept protected and stored appropriately for the product, and finished orders are handled and packaged with care to protect them before pickup. We work to keep food preparation and completed products separated and protected from unrelated household activity while bakery work is underway.
We provide ingredient and major-allergen information as required and ask customers to tell us about allergy or dietary concerns before ordering. We use careful food-handling practices, but because the kitchen handles multiple ingredients, we do not promise a completely allergen-free environment or zero cross-contact unless we specifically confirm otherwise for an individual product.
That statement is a required disclosure for Mississippi cottage-food products and explains the regulatory classification of the kitchen. It does not mean we treat food safety casually. We still follow the requirements that apply to our cottage-food operation and maintain careful sanitation, handling, storage, labeling, allergen-awareness, packaging, and order-protection practices.
No. Cottage-food operations have a different regulatory framework from conventional commercial food facilities, including specific product and labeling requirements. The required label disclosure is meant to be transparent about that distinction. We pair that transparency with careful food handling and high internal standards because customers should feel confident about what they are serving to family and friends.
The bakery has completed extensive food-safety and food-handling training that informs our day-to-day preparation practices. We do not list a specific certification here unless it is one we can accurately verify and keep current.
Once the food is ready, we package and protect it for the handoff to you and keep it appropriately stored for the product until pickup. At pickup, we can also share practical handling or storage guidance when an item needs special care.
Handle the package carefully, follow any storage guidance provided with the order, protect it from excessive heat, sunlight, humidity, and movement, and serve or store it within the appropriate timeframe for the product. If you are unsure how to handle a particular item, ask us before leaving pickup or contact us as soon as possible.
The website should make ordering easier, not leave you wondering what to do next.
Items that are available through the storefront can be purchased through the available ordering flow. Anything that needs more conversation, design work, or planning can be started through a custom-order request instead.
If your question is about something you would like us to make, start a custom-order request and include what you know. For an existing order, business question, partnership, supplier inquiry, accessibility need, or anything else, use the Contact page and choose the option that best fits.
Still wondering?
For a cake, cupcakes, cookies, event desserts, or another custom bake, send the details you already know. We’ll help with the rest.
